Long Road Back

The Issues

Redemption

“…people say forget the past, but they walk around with picks and shovels and dig it up” Anthony, ex-offender

Anyone faced with a major tragedy in their life seeks to make some kind of sense out of the event. For a person incarcerated for a crime who has come to terms with the crime and its consequences, making sense of these events may entail a conscious or unconscious desire to redeem the time they have left. But redemption in an environment that continually erects barriers can be very difficult.

“The only thing you have is the way you live your life and if you’re going to find any sort of redemption out of the whole thing, you try to live as good a life as you can, be as good a person as you can, and part of that is helping others” Klaus, ex-offender, bank robbery
